2017 Garstang in Bloom Business Awards
On Wednesday 9th August, an award ceremony for the Business entries to the Garstang in Bloom competition was held at The Royal Oak. With four categories of entry (large business, small business, pub/restaurant and bank), businesses and shop owners up and down Garstang High Street tended their blooms to make a truly fantastic display overall. The judges, who included the Mayor and Mayoress of Garstang, Peter and Lyn Ryder, and the Garstang Youth Mayor, Lucas Brown, had the tough job of marking the entries against the criteria set by Norah Hoyles, the Business entry co-ordinator.
The ceremony itself was hosted by The Independent Garstang Traders (Garstang and District Chamber of Trade) and Luke Pollard, the Chairman, was there to present the awards alongside Mayor Ryder, Alan Pearson, the Chariman of the Garstang in Bloom Team, and Jorge Pollard, a representative from the Garstang Youth Council.
Winners in each category were as follows:
Small Business: 3rd Place – Conway Cards and Billington’s Electrical; 2nd Place – Garstang Deli-Café; 1st Place Winner – The Dressing Room
Large Business: 3rd Place – Whites of Garstang; 2nd Place – L. Stewart Dimond & Sons; 1st Place Winner – Carrs Jewellers
Bank: 1st Place Winner – The Royal Bank of Scotland
Overall Winner – The Dressing Room
During the ceremony, thanks was expressed to all the businesses for taking part in the competition and for the very high standard of this year’s displays. Thanks were also expressed to the Garstang in Bloom team, who volunteer tirelessly to maintain the outstanding standard of floral displays around Garstang.
