Congratulations! Wyre Together Award – Garstang Winner 2014

Last night the Wyre Together Awards were held in Thornton. This being National Volunteer Week.
The award ceremony was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Wyre’s Chief Executive Garry Payne, and the leader of Wyre Council Peter Gibson.
Garstang’s Millennium Green was nominated for “best environmental group” and Gordon Harter was a nominee for “best volunteer”.

The Millennium Green was the outright winner in their category and their nomination demonstrated how the work of the Millennium Green and its “Friends” promote and encourage volunteers, schools and the community to care for their local natural environment and help to improve the understanding, awareness and appreciation of the area and its wildlife. Peter Ryder picked up the award for the team.

Gordon was a runner up amongst so many worthy nominees for “best volunteer”. He was nominated for his devotion to Kepple Lane Park, the hours and hours of work that he personally has put into raising funding to achieve the dream of completing Garstang’s very first official park. The park is nearing completion now, with a “tots” play area, a trim trail with outdoor gym equipment, a new picnic area and a bog garden due to be installed very soon.

WELL DONE! GARSTANG VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BEST!
