Garstang Great War Heroes project

The local historian leading Garstang’s Great War Heroes project is planning his latest lecture linked to the centenary commemorations of the First World War.
On Saturday, November 7th, 2015, the evening before Remembrance Sunday, Paul Smith will deliver his latest lecture. The topic will be “Women and the war: the female world of 1914-1918.”
The meeting, at Garstang Arts Centre, will be in two parts, separated by a refreshment break. The first part will be devoted to women and war work (at home and abroad), while the second part will be on women’s attitudes, sartorial history and emancipation.
The event starts at 7pm on Saturday, November 7. It is a strictly ticket only event. Tickets (price £5 including refreshments) are available from Market Place News, Garstang.
* It is anticipated the lecture session will include the public launch of the new book, ‘Garstang’s Great War Heroes’. The 80-page book is about the life, times and sad deaths of the 19 men whose names appear on the Great War plaque of Garstang War Memorial. The illustrated book, which has the backing of Garstang Historical Society and Garstang Royal British Legion, also focuses on several Garstang servicemen who returned from war service, their lives never to be the same again.
