Garstang Lions in the Community
Garstang and District Lions
Garstang Musical Productions.
The Lions sponsored 10 tickets for the recent production of Iolanthe by Garstang Musical Productions. The tickets were given to various local senior citizens to enable them to have an evening out.
Community Bonfire and Firework Display
This year’s Bonfire and Firework Display will take place on Saturday the 1st of November. As usual, the Lions cannot accept firewood (or rubbish!) from the general public for safety and logistic reasons. All the firewood is provided by local businesses. The Bonfire will be lit at 7.00pm with the Fireworks following at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available. Entrance costs £3 per person.
On the 5th of November the Lions will be organising the car parking for the Bonfire at the Barn in Scorton. The Bonfire is lit at 6.00pm and a firework display follows at 7.00pm.
St Thomas’ C of E Primary School
Two specially adapted laptop computers are required for special needs children at the school. One is for a pupil with Cerebral Palsy, and another for a partially sighted pupil. Garstang Lions are providing one of the items for the school.
Garstang Running Club
The Lions will be providing their Car Parking service at the Garstang 10 Mile Road Race on Sunday the 7th of December. The race starts and finishes at Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, and starts at 10am.
Garstang Lions will be providing Santa’s Grotto during the Victorian Evenings on the Monday the 8th and Tuesday the 9th of December. More information will be in next month’s Focus.
Santa by Barge
The Lions have pledge support for the annual ‘Santa by Barge’ project, organised by the local boating community. The event takes place on Saturday the 13th of December and starts with Santa arriving at the Tithe Barn by narrow boat where he then meets local children and gives them presents. During the afternoon there are games, activities and entertainment for the children plus a tombola and other fund raising activities. As well as entertaining the children the event also raises money for the annual Garstang and District Children’s Festival. The event starts at 2.00pm and continues throughout the afternoon.
This year’s Lions Mencap Christmas Lunch will take place at The Kenlis Arms on the 14th of December.
As always the Lions welcome new members or anyone who is just interested in seeing what they do. Information is available on the web site:
– or just speak to a member
– or simply come along to a meeting
– 3rd Tuesday of the month in the Royal Oak at 8.00pm
– look for anyone in a dark blue fleece or light blue polo shirt
(don’t worry – it’s not compulsory to get ‘dressed up’ if you join!)
