Hedelaying Competition on the Millennium Green
Many of the boundary hedges on the Green were planted about 12 years ago. Although they have grown well, to ensure that a good, dense, animal proof hedge is maintained, it is good practice to layer hedges approximately every ten years.
For many years, Wyre Council And Myerscough College have organised an annual competition to showcase the skills of experts in the ancient rural craft of hedgelaying and provide an opportunity for others to learn the skills from professionals.
The Millennium Green Trust is delighted to announce that, after examining the hedges on the Green, the organisers have decided that they are ideal specimens for layering and therefore the 2013 competition will be held on the Green.See the attached poster for further details.
We hope that you will be able to come along and watch the experts at work or even join in the beginners workshop [booking for workshop is essential].
Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year
