New Dipper Arrives on the Millennium Green

The new carving replaces the old Dipper that had rotted away over the last few years.

It has been carved by James Shelliker

The wood used is elm and the artwork stands on steel feet and is set into large Yorkshire stone (donated by Stone UK) on Wyre Lane Garstang.

The project has been sponsored by the Green Partnership.

James created this Dipper from a large piece of Elm, and he said it was quite a challenge to get the lines correct – the hardest part being the bird’s breast. He uses a combination of different chain saws and hand tools to create his sculptures.

James will be present at the re-opening of the Green on September 10th. and he will be demonstrating his craft.

Entry on that day is free of charge and James is just one of many interesting exhibitors – see the other news story for full details.
