Sign2Sign World Record Attempt!

9th February 2011 @ 2.45pm

Staff and children at Garstang St Thomas CE Primary School are amongst the 70,000 people who have registered to take part in sign2sing, an attempt to break the World Record for the most people singing and signing a song at the same time on 9th February 2011 at 2.45pm.

Head teacher Helen Ife says, “ We are lucky enough here in school to have Miss Harper, a teaching assistant who is fluent in British Sign Language. Miss Harper is keen to teach the children to sign and runs a signing club during the children’s lunch break. She came to me with the idea to join in with this record breaking attempt and we are only too happy to be taking part and raising awareness of British Sign Language. The children have been signing hymns and songs for a while and seem to pick up this new language very quickly. This has been fantastic for our hearing impaired pupil who now has another way in which to communicate with friends.”

Rather aptly, the children will be singing and signing ‘The New Seekers’ 1970′s hit single “I’d like to Teach the World to Sing.” For more information about the record attempt please visit the sign2sing website:
