‘The Friends’ Footprints’- First Steps

Welcome to the first update of the ‘Friends of Garstang Walking Festival’.

As you can imagine a great deal of effort has been going into the organisation of the 2012 event. Many of you will have seen the new programme. (available as a download on this page – see news)

We hope you like the new format which is more economical to produce and has enabled a greater number to be printed and increased the scope of distribution. This includes a national events distributor.

Alternatively, if you go to http://www.wyre.gov.uk you can download the programme or order a brochure. Another option is to collect from Visit Garstang Centre, Cherestanc Square, Garstang, PR3 1EF.

Many of the popular walks are being repeated and some new ones are being introduced. Walk the Wyre Way is being undertaken From Saturday 12 May to Tuesday 15 May for the hardy ones amongst us and more gentle ones like Bluebell Teas Stroll are available. New ones include Cheese and Churches on Wednesday 16 May and the 3 ‘B’- Bilsborrow, Brock and Beacon Fell on Thursday 17 May. On the same day there is an example of a revised route for River, Reservoirs and Watery Revelations thanks to United Utilities.

The new Executive Committee of the Friends has started to get underway.

The first event will be a Coffee Morning on Thursday 12 April- please see below. On 21 April we will be represented at the Millennium Green’s Celebration starting at 1pm where we have been given the opportunity to publicise the Walking Festival. Unfortunately, Cherry Childes who agreed to become Chair has had to relinquish the post for personal reasons. I was asked and have accepted the role in her stead. She will still be a member of the Committee. I can be contacted by email at colinsills@btinternet.com and my phone number is 01995 603270.

So these are very early days for the Friends as we work with Duncan Byrne and our walk leaders and partners on this year’s event. We hope to make more Footprints in the coming months and that will need much support.

Thanks for your interest,

Colin Sills
