What’s on at Garstang Arts Centre?
Tuesday August 16th Floral Art. The next meeting takes place at 2 pm on Tuesday August 16th when members will welcome the return of Maureen Garstang to lead us in a Workshop with the theme of “ Flowers for Decorating a Celebration Cake” This theme was requested by a member and will be something different to our usual workshops. Garstang Festival of Arts at the Arts Centre
Saturday August 20th Craft and Collectors Fair from 10am until 3pm.This is the last of this year’s Saturday Fairs and is your last chance to find some wonderful bargains in our range of beautiful hand made crafts , small antiques, collectables and lovely cakes, not forgetting our delicious Corned Beef Hash for lunch
Sunday August 21st Violin Recital with Patricia Donnelly & Alan Free. From 2.30 to 3.30 pm and light refreshments will be available. Patricia returns to Garstang for her final visit, touching on many aspects of her long career in music both with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and freelance. This short recital, with colleague and talented pianist, Alan Free, will be a selection of her favourite pieces. Entry by donation.
Tuesday August 23rd Origami Demonstration and Workshop. Come and learn the art of paper folding with Leah and Brenda from 2pm to 4pm. Try some new designs this year. Suitable for adults and children. Cost £1. Refreshments available.
Tuesday August 23rd “Around Garstang “ Film Evening starts at 7.30 pm. Garstang Camera Club members Jeff Ashworth and Peter Thornber show some of the events which have taken place over the past year including exclusive coverage of the erection of the Dewlay Wind Turbine. Cost £3 including light refreshments, children’s entry free. Raffle.
Wednesday August 24th Montmartre. Come along and watch the Painting Group painting in the Arts Centre Courtyard – Montmartre style, between 2pm and 4pm. Refreshments will be available.
Thursday August 25th Palm Court Concert with June Baker & Friends Enjoy an hour of peace between 1pm and 2pm amongst the bustle of Market Day in Garstang. Entry by donation. Refreshments will be available.
Thursday August 25th Concert with Sylvan Sounds Ladies Choir. This is the first time this versatile Ladies Choir from Fleetwood have performed at the Garstang Arts Festival. Created in 1997 by Musical Director, Sylvia Swan, Sylvan Sounds has performed throughout the North West and further afield. They are known for programmes which are rich in songs based on the Folk Music of the British Isles & Europe but also include some modern compositions. David Chadwick is their valued accompanist on the piano. The concert starts at 7-30pm. and there will be a Raffle. Tickets, cost £5 including tea and cakes, available from The Arts Centre or ring 01995 605210. If seats are still available, you will also be able to pay on the door, but early booking is recommended.
Friday August 26th Garstang Arts Festival Poetry Workshop. ‘A Passion for Poetry ’ with James Dodding will take place between 2pm – 5pm. This event will be very popular and booking is essential . Tickets, cost £3, are available from Ann Humphreys 01995 602633
Monday August 29th Craft Displays and Demonstrations. Includes decorating eggs, designing cards, painting, jewellery making, needlework, woodturning etc. Refreshments served all day. Free entry between 11am and 3pm.
