What’s on at Garstang Arts Centre in April 2013

The Garstang and District Arts Society which runs the Garstang Arts Centre is urgently looking for a new Vice Chairman. We have been without one since last year, and although the position is not onerous, we need to have the position filled as we come up to our new financial year. The Beginners’ Bridge Club is going from strength to strength, and will be meeting on April 2, 9,16, 23 and 30. Our venue is the Music Room every Tuesday afternoon from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm, except for the 3rd Tuesday of the month (in April, this will be 16th) when we meet from 10 am to 12 noon. We are a new group with very mixed abilities and experience and welcome anyone interested in learning Contract Bridge from our experienced tutor. The Life of Harry (Talking with my friends) at 2-00pm on Thursday April 4. David Greenwood talks with Harry Kenyon, Owner and Founder of “Harry’s Music Box” Garstang, about Harry’s eventful, adventurous and remarkable life and career. The Painting Group have organized a special Ladies Afternoon at 2.30pm on Saturday 13 April. Local dress shop Izzy Pink will provide a Fashion Show, with our models showcasing the new season’s clothes for a wide range of ages and sizes. Amongst the speciality stalls will be jewellery and decorated eggs. Tea/coffee and cakes and a raffle will be included in the admission price of £6.50.

The April meeting of the Garstang Floral Art Group will be a Workshop led by Brenda Newhouse on Tuesday 16 April at 2-00pm in the Arts Centre. Members will be creating their own arrangement based on the Hogarth Curve demonstrated by Brenda at the meeting in February. The demonstration will be followed by tea and biscuits. The Garstang and District Arts Society’s AGM will take place on Tuesday 16 April at 7.30pm in the Schoolroom at the Arts Centre. The Arts Society is the organisation which runs the Arts Centre, holding the lease from the Garstang Town Trust, on behalf of the various Activity Groups and their members. Everyone is welcome at the AGM.

Craft and Collectors Fair on Saturday 20 April from 10-30am until 3.30pm . This month’s Fair has a lovely collection of handmade jewellery, knitware, painted eggs, photographs, paintings, silk scarves and cards. Plus small antiques, books, clocks, curios and lovely cakes. For children, we also have face painting. Refreshments are served all day including hot food at lunchtime.

Poetry Appreciation on Friday 26 April from 2pm until 4pm is called Something understood. David Greenwood will read a selection of religious poetry. David’s talks are both profound and enjoyable, and really open your mind. Come along – you can sit and listen or join in and read if you prefer. All are welcome.
