What’s on at Garstang Arts Centre in January 2015

As I write in December, applications for the popular Garstang & District Open Art Exhibition are flooding in. The exhibition will open on the 6th January 2015, following judging by County Councillor Sandra Perkins on the 4th January, and ontinue to Saturday 7th February. Prizes will be presented to the five winners by Garstang and District Arts Society Chairman Mary Thornber on Saturday 10th January at 11am in the Arts Centre. Please come along and view the exhibition and perhaps take the opportunity to buy an original work of art. Entry to the exhibition is free during the Arts Centre’s normal opening hours.

The first meeting of the year of Garstang Floral Art Group will take place on Tuesday January 20th at 2pm when we are delighted to welcome back Jennet Bretherton from Whitechapel. Jennet is always popular with our members and will be giving another of her very enjoyable demonstrations. Light refreshments will be served, after which the stunning arrangements will be raffled. Visitors are very welcome. Further details from June Gornall on 01995 602505 or Mary Thornber on 01995 605210.

The Beginners’ Bridge Class will re-start for the New Year on 6th January. As usual, we will meet in the Music Room from 1.30 to 4.30 pm every Tuesday (January 6th, 13th and 27th) except for the third Tuesday in the month (January 20th) when we meet from 10am to 12 noon. We are a friendly group with mixed levels of skill and ability, and would be very pleased if you would like to join us, whether you are having a go at Contract Bridge for the first time, or brushing up your skills from years ago. The Class is still fairly new, and new members are joining all the time, so come along and have a go. More details from Pat Hansell on 01995 600397 or Mary Thornber on 01995 605210

The Poetry Apppreciation Group’s next meeting is on Friday January 23rd from 2pm until 4pm. We are a friendly group who meet on the fourth Friday of the month, so do come along and see if you like us. You can sit and listen or join in and read if you prefer. All are welcome. A new year has arrived for the 200 Club and subscriptions are once again due.
The cost for the year remains at £13 and as usual there will be two draws, in the spring and in the autumn, with cash prizes of £700 in each draw. If there are any new people who would like to join us there are a limited number of places available. Subscriptions can be paid by cheque, by Direct Debit or cash direct to the Arts Centre. Thank you to all those people who support this important fundraiser and good luck for 2015.
