What’s on at Garstang Arts Centre – January 2017

January Open Art Competition/Exhibition. As I write, entries are flooding in for the Open Art Competition/Exhibition. The exhibition will be open to the public from January 10th and the presentation of prizes will take place in the Arts Centre on Saturday 14th January at 11-00 am. This is an opportunity to view over 100 paintings from artists both local and from further afield and perhaps purchase an original piece of work at a very reasonable price. The exhibition will close on Thursday 9th February 2017. Sheila Tearle – Exhibition Co-ordinator.

Bridge Group After the Christmas break the evening bridge sessions will start on Monday January 9th 2017 at 7-00pm in the Arts Centre and will continue on 16th 23rd and 30th January. Details from Bob on 01995 603524. The Tuesday Bridge Group will meet at 1-30pm in the Arts Centre on January 10th 24th and 31st. Enquiries ring Mary on 01995 605210. New members are always very welcome at both sessions where they will be instructed by an experienced bridge player and will find that existing members are all very willing to help.

The Garstang Ukulele Group will start the new year with a midnight strumalong of Auld Lang Syne at the Tithe Barn (in the people’s key of C of course). This will be the final song of our first Ukennany, also featuring Ukulele Jukebox with their eclectic mix of folk, rock, psychedelia and punk. The fun starts at 9 pm and entry is free. We will be starting back with our regular Sunday afternoon meetings at 2 pm on the 8th January. We will also be back at the Tithe Barn on the 2nd Thursday of the month for a strumalong using our songbook. The fun starts at 7.30 pm and everyone is welcome. If you are interested in finding out more about playing the ukulele, please come along to the Tithe Barn on the 12th, or contact Bob Sapey on 01995 604621.

The first meeting of the new programme of the Garstang Floral Art Group will take place in the Arts Centre on Tuesday 17th January at 2-00pm. The meeting will start with a short AGM, followed by a Presentation by June Gornall on Gardens she has visited in Kent and East Sussex. There will be a light hearted quiz, followed by refreshments and some guidance on what members need for the Workshop in February. Visitors are very welcome and will find the group very friendly.
